Hours after a video of Karnataka High Court judge Justice Vedavyasachar Srishananda referring to a Muslim dominated sub-locality in West Bengaluru as 'Pakistan' went viral on social media, another video of the judge has emerged where he is seen making a gender insensitive comment.

In this video, Justice Srishananda is seen reprimanding a woman lawyer for answering a question put to the counsel for the opposite party.

The judge goes on to tell the woman lawyer in jest that she seems to know a lot about the opposite party, and that she might even reveal the colour of his undergarments next.

“You can’t write on cheque just because it is empty. He will go to jail for 3 years. Do understand that?” the judge is seen asking a male advocate initially.

The advocate replies that he understands. The judge then asks him whether the person referred to is an income tax assessee.

Before the male lawyer can answer, the opposing counsel, a woman lawyer, answers that the person in question is indeed an income tax assessee.

At this point, the judge asks her why she was answering.

“Wait amma,” the judge tells the woman advocate who then profusely apologises to him.

“You know everything of him. If asked tomorrow, you will tell what colour of undergarment he wears,” Justice Srishananda goes on to say in Kannada, while smiling. The comment elicited smiles from the counsel before him.

This video too has led to outrage on social media, with many demanding that strict action be taken against the judge.

Senior Advocate Indira Jaising posted the video clip on her X account, tweeting that Justice Srishananda should be trained on gender sensitisation.

“We call upon the Chief Justice of India to take suo motu action against this judge and send him for gender sensitisation training,” Jaising posted on X.
