The Allahabad High Court has decided to revert to complete virtual hearing at both its principal seat at Allahabad and the Bench at Lucknow, after eight judges and few staff members tested positive for Covid-19..The decision to revert to virtual hearing was taken in a meeting of the administrative committee of the High Court held under the chairmanship of Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal.In the meeting, it was also informed that the Registrar (Protocol) of High Court tested positive today.The decision to switch back to virtual mode came just after 6 days when the High Court had decided to allow hybrid mode of hearing in which lawyers have the option to appear physically or via video conference.Last week, three judges of Allahabad High Court had tested positive and now, a total of eight judges (3 from Lucknow, 5 from Prayagraj) are infected with covid-19.According to sources, all the judges have self-isolated themselves in their respective residences..Apart from this, the following guidelines have been issued by court today..The High Court which was functioning physically, had on January 2, decided that it will hear cases via virtual mode from January 3, 2022.However, on January 3, the court decided that it will employ a hybrid system of hearing cases in which lawyers will have the option to appear either via video conference or physically.This decision was made after some lawyers protested against High Court's decision to go fully virtual.The High Court has now been forced to go fully virtual due to the increased COVID cases among judges and staff.
