The Allahabad High Court has prohibited the media from reporting on a matter concerning the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath..A Bench of Justices Krishna Murari and Akhilesh Chandra Sharma passed the order while hearing a petition filed by journalist, Pravez Parwaz and social activist Asad Hyat..The case concerns a speech made by then Member of Parliament, Adityanath in 2007. It has been contended that Adityanath’s speech had contributed to the 2007 Gorakhpur riots..A complaint was registered by the police against Adityanath and three others in 2008. However, the State refused to give sanction for prosecuting Adityanath in May this year. This refusal was challenged in the High Court by the petitioners..During the course of hearing, the Bench was apprised by AAG Manish Goel that the State was being caused much embarrassment owing to wrong media reports and oral observations being quoted out of context..The Bench observed that it had already cautioned against publishing misleading content. After going through various media reports, the Court stood in agreement with the AAG and therefore ordered a media gag on proceedings pertaining to the case..The order passed on November 7, 2017 states,.“After looking into the various media reports which have been produced by Sri Manish Goel before us, we are constrained to pass the order directing that no one shall publish or cause to be published any proceedings of this case till the delivery of the judgement.”.Read Order below..Image taken from here.
