Lawyer Gautam Khaitan sent to two day ED custody

Delhi’s Patiala House Court today sent lawyer Gautam Khaitan to two day custody with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in relation to a case registered under the Black Money Act of 2015, reports ANI..Khaitan was produced before the Duty Magistrate Neeta Sharma after he was arrested by ED earlier today..Khaitan is also accused of receiving kickbacks for the Rs. 3,600 defense deal with Italian chopper manufacturer AgustaWestland for 12 AW-101 choppers during the Congress party led-UPA era in 2010..ED has claimed that it has unearthed material evidence against Khaitan after the Income Tax raided several of his offices in Delhi-NCR last week..He was arrested today by the ED under The Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) and Imposition of Tax Act, 2015..Another co-accused in the AgustaWestland scam, Christian Michel was sent to judicial custody till February 26 by a Special CBI Court earlier this month. Michel was extradited from Dubai in December last year. Michel is also accused of having helped AgustaWestland grab the 2010 deal. For the said deal, Michel allegedly received over Euro 30 million from the helicopter manufacturer for bribing Congress party leaders, bureaucrats, politicians as well as defence officials..The other co-accused in the case, former IAF chief SP Tyagi is currently on bail..Khaitan was represented by Advocate PK Dubey. Advocate DP Singh is the Special Prosecutor for ED..Khaitan will be produced before the Special CBI Court on January 28.
