The coal block allocation controversy is back. On Tuesday, a Division Bench of Justices BD Ahmed and Sanjeev Sachdeva postponed the coal block auction scheduled for Chitarpur coal block in Jharkhand..The Bench, while hearing arguments at length from both sides, postponed submission of bids for the said coal block, thereby providing a shot in the arm for Kolkata Glass & Ceramics Ltd that had moved the petition..The company had alleged that there was ambiguity ‘writ large’ in the Tender Document which led to the arbitrary disqualification of the Petitioners from the list of technically qualified bidders, from the list released by the Ministry of Coal on August 8..The Petitioners who were represented by Advaita Legal’s team headed by Sujit Ghosh, had briefed Senior Counsel P Chidambaram and Justice (Ret’d) Ajit Kumar Sinha for the arguments..Pursuant to the said order, bidding for the Chitarpur Coal Block that was scheduled to be held on 12 August 2015, has now been postponed till the disposal of the writ petition with the Coal Ministry issuing a notification in this regard.
