Four new Special Benches have been created in the Delhi High Court by Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal for expediting the hearing of criminal appeals..Four new Division Benches are:.Justices Mukta Gupta and Navin ChawlaJustices Pratibha Rani and Rekha PalliJustices S.P.Garg and C.Hari ShankarJustices Ashutosh Kumar and Prathiba M. Singh.The Division Benches will sit on Saturdays to hear criminal appeals and the first such sitting would be of the Division Bench comprising Justices Mukta Gupta and Navin Chawla on the coming Saturday i.e. September 16 at 10:30 a.m. in Court No. 22.Four Additional Public Procecutors namely Rajat Katyal, Asha Tiwari, Rajni Gupta and Amit Gupta have been nominated by the Standing Counsel (Criminal) for assisting the Division Benches in disposal of the Appeals..The decision by the Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court comes after Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra wrote to the Chief Justices of all High Courts urging them to constitute special benches on Saturdays to hear criminal appeals in which legal aid counsel have been provided..The Gujarat High Court has already constituted special benches to hear criminal appeals on Saturdays. The Patna High Court has also taken a similar decision.
