The Supreme Court today clarified that there is no stay on the construction of the contentious metro car shed project in Mumbai’s Aarey forest, for which over 2,600 trees of the Colony were to be cut..The Special Bench of Justices Arun Mishra and Deepak Gupta clarified that the status quo which was ordered pertains only to further felling of trees and that the Court has not stopped construction activity for the controversial project..The Court has also extended the interim order on the maintenance of the status quo as regards the felling of trees till November 15, when the Court will hear the matter next. The authorities have also been directed to submit a report on the status of the trees transplanted. The Court has said,.” Mumbai Metro (BMRC) to produce the photographs of the trees and number of surviving trees which were planted two years ago, the girth of the trees as well as their height.
