The Gujarat State Legal Services Authority (GSLSA) recently organized Special Lok Adalat for old cases concerning check-dishonor and matrimonial disputes in which nearly 50,000 cases were heard..A total of 7,866 cases were settled by the special Lok Adalat out of which 6,770 were cases filed under the Negotiable Instruments Act (NI Act) and 1,096 were matrimonial disputes (except for divorce cases). .According to a press release issued by the GSLSA on October 26, the Special Lok Adalat was constituted under the direction of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal of the Gujarat High Court/ The Special Lok Adalat was set up to resolve disputes by way of a conciliation bench comprising one judicial officer and one trained mediator."All associated with the justice delivery system have appreciated the active measures taken by Hon'ble the Chief Justice. Many businessman expressed their pleasure that due to lok adalat their old debt could promptly recovered prior to Diwali," the press release stated. .The Special Lok Adalat was constituted exclusively for family or magistrate court cases that have been pending for more than five years or are even older. These cases were identified as "Targeted Cases" by the District Case Management Committee which was formed under the guidance of the Supreme Court of India.
