Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Friday revealed that there is a growing trend of women judges outnumbering their male counterparts in lower courts across the country..He cited the specific example of a junior division court in Maharashtra, which currently has a total of 75 judges, 42 of whom are women.All 75 judges were present in courtroom number 1 of the Supreme Court today..While drawing attention to the same during mentioning today, he said,"We wish to share a happy news. Here at the back row...We have 75 judges from civil judge junior division here in court from Maharashtra. Out of a batch of 75 judges, 42 are women and 33 are men. 5 direct recruits for district judges where 2 women and 3 men. This is happening across the country where the judges who are women are more in numbers.".The CJI emphasized that the change in the gender ratio of subordinate judges was reflective of circumstances and decisions made fifteen years ago."The appointments we make today is a reflection of what happened fifteen years ago and we have to select from the pool.
