Pursuant to the surprise visits conducted by judges of the Delhi High Court at various courts in the capital last month, as many as twenty-four district judges have been hauled up for being late to court..The Registrar General of the High Court has sent a notice to the District and Sessions judges of all the courts in Delhi calling for an explanation from the tardy judges as to why they were late..A task force headed by Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court Gita Mittal had made a surprise visit to the Patiala House court complex. Similar inspections were carried out by other judges of the High Court; Justice Ravindra Bhat visited the Tis Hazari complex, Justice Sanjiv Khanna went to the Rohini courts, Justice GS Sistani showed up at Karkardooma, Justice S Muralidhar at Saket, and Justice Vipin Sanghi went to the Dwarka courts..The inspections were conducted with a view to keeping tabs on the judges of the district courts. The judicial officers were found to be arriving post 10:30 AM, beyond the stipulated time of 10:00 AM. According to the list, judges were found to be not sitting on the dais even post 10:48 AM..The District and Sessions judges are now required to forward the explanations of the judges on the list, to the High Court within two weeks.
