The Central government on Thursday notified the appointment of ten additional Karnataka High Court Judges as permanent Judges of the High Court.
Two notifications to this effect were issued. The Judges so appointed as permanent Judges of the Karnataka High Court are:
Justice Maralur Indrakumar Arun;
Justice Engalaguppe Seetharamaiah Indiresh;
Justice Ravi Venkappa Hosmani;
Justice Savanur Vishwajith Shetty;
Justice Shivashankar Amarannavar;
Justice Makkimane Ganeshaiah Uma;
Justice Vedavyasachar Srishananda;
Justice Hanchate Sanjeevkumar;
Justice Padmaraj Nemachandra Desai; and
Justice Panjigadde Krishna Bhat.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended that these Judges be made permanent Judges of the Karnataka High Court earlier this month.
The first three judges on the above list were appointed as additional judges on January 7, 2020, while Justice SV Shetty assumed office from April 28, 2020.
Justices S Amarannavar, MG Uma, V Srishananda, H Sanjeevkumar and PN Desai were appointed as additional judges on May 5, 2020. Justice P Krishna Bhat assumed office on May 21, 2020.
On a related note, the Central government recently cleared six additional judges of the High Court - Justices NS Sanjay Gowda, Jyoti Mulimani, R Nataraj, Hemant Chandangoudar, Pradeep Singh Yerur and Maheshan Nagaprasanna - as permanent judges.
With the latest appointment of permanent Judges, the Karnataka High Court will have 42 permanent judges and 3 additional judges, with 17 vacancies as against a sanctioned strength of 62 judges.
