The New Delhi Television (NDTV) has moved the Supreme Court of India against the one-day ban order imposed by the Ministry of Information and broadcasting..NDTV informed the Bombay Stock Exchange that it has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court..“This is in continuation of our earlier announcement in relation to the order of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting against New Delhi Television Limited’s (“NDTV Ltd.”) Hindi news channel, ‘NDTV India’ directing it to stop the transmission or re-transmission of channel for 1 day from 00:01 hrs of November 9, 2016 till 00:01 hrs of November 10, 2016..We now update that NDTV Ltd. and others have filed a writ petition before the Hon’ble Supreme Court challenging the said order, inter-alia, challenging the constitutional validity of the said order and the provisions of law pursuant to which the said order has purportedly been passed.”.The ban on NDTV has been imposed under Rule 6(1)(p) of the Programme Code which has been formulated under Cable TV Network Rules, 1994. The Rule reads as follows:.“No programme should be carried in the cable service which contains live coverage of any anti-terrorist operation by security forces, wherein media coverage shall be restricted to periodic briefing by an officer designated by the appropriate Government, till such operation concludes.”.The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had imposed the ban on NDTV for violating the said provision for its reportage on the terrorist attack on the Pathankot airbase..Story to be updated.
