NALSAR hosts 10th Convocation for Graduating Class of 2012

NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad organized its 10th annual convocation, on September 2, 2012 which saw the graduating batch of 2012 receiving their degrees and medals in the presence of distinct legal luminaries. Students from a range of courses like Ph.D., L.L.M (Master of Laws), Masters degree in Taxation and Business Laws (M.T.B.L), Masters degree in Laws of Financial services and Capital Markets(ML-FS & CM), B.A. LL.B. (Hons), P.G. Diploma in Patent Laws, Cyber Laws, Media Laws and IHL, Graduate diploma in Building and Infrastructure Contracts and Real Estate Management were felicitated..The event was held in the newly constructed auditorium. A number of dignitaries graced the occasion with Hon`ble Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, Union Minister of Power & Corporate Affairs being the Chief Guest. The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy was the guest of honour. The event was presided by Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose, acting Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh and Chancellor, NALSAR University of Law. Among the other invitees were Justice U.C. Bannerjee, Founder Chancellor NALSAR and former judge of Supreme Court and Prof. Ranbir Singh, founder Vice- Chancellor, NALSAR and presently Vice–Chancellor, NLU Delhi..Enumerating the achievements of both NALSAR graduates and the faculty members, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Faizan Mustafa congratulated Suhasini Sen for securing the prestigious Gates Cambridge Scholarship for the year 2012. He also spoke about the accomplishments of NALSAR students in the field of mooting and advocacy at both international and national levels and the fact that 19 students were sent to various foreign universities for a semester under the MoUs signed with them. Quoting Martin Luther King Jr., “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” he urged the students “to see beyond their personal and vested interests” and to follow the path of justice no matter how difficult it gets..His address was followed by the conferment of degrees. Gold medals were awarded to one student of the L.L.M program and 14 students of B.A. LL.B (Hons) program. Girls ruled the show as 11 out of 14 medal winners were girls and in all, girls bagged 33 medals out of the 36 that were awarded. Sakshi Sawhney and Chand Chopra topped the list with 8 gold medals each..When asked how it feels to graduate from NALSAR, Chand Chopra said, “NALSAR has been a beautiful experience. With the kind of opportunities it offers, it is easy to achieve so much more than you would anticipate. Winning eight gold medals does feel nice but there is just so much more about NALSAR that I will treasure throughout my life. I have been fortunate to have very supportive friends throughout my five years and while I feel sad that it is over I am sure for all of us the journey has only just begun.” At present, Chand is a trainee at Allen and Overy LLP, London..The Vice-Chancellor’s medal for leadership went to Abhishake Singh from the boys and Mandavi Singh from the girls..Chief Guest, Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, while delivering his speech, placed emphasis on “the importance of a strong legal infrastructure and sound administration of justice.” Pointing out that, apart from academic excellence, one needs some basic personal skills and attributes to excel in the legal field, he advised the students on how to nurture their career. He opined on the importance of an inclusive legal system wherein justice is not a luxury for few but it is accessible to each and every section of the society. He elaborated on the quintessential values and skills that a successful lawyer and a judge must possess.
