MCIA adds Adrian Winstanley to Council of Members

In less than a year after its inauguration, the Mumbai Centre for InternationalAdrian Winstanley Arbitration (MCIA) has made a new significant addition to its Council of Members.

Joining the Council is Adrian Winstanley, who is an English solicitor with over 20 years’ experience in international arbitration and mediation.

With a long list of accolades affixed to his name, he was, among other achievements, appointed as the Registrar for the London Centre for International Arbitration (LCIA) in 1997; he also served as the Director General and Executive Director of the LCIA, retaining his position as a Registrar until the year 2008.

Winstanley has also played a pivotal role in the establishment and operation of DIFC-LCIA (Dubai), LCIA- India (Dubai) and LCIA-MIAC (Mauritius).

Winstanley’s addition to the Council completes the so called triumvirate with John Beechey (erstwhile President of the International Court of Arbitration) and Michael Pryles (erstwhile Chairman of Singapore International Arbitration Centre).

Madhukeshwar Desai, CEO of the MCIA commented,

Adrian brings a wealth of experience with him and we are delighted to welcome him on board the MCIA Council of Arbitration. The MCIA Council now has the former leaders of 3 of the world’s leading arbitral institutions, ICC, SIAC and now the LCIA. ”

MCIA recently also conducted its first international roadshow in London last month, where White & Case hosted an event, which was very well attended and Clifford Chance hosted an equally successful roundtable event, with key senior stakeholders from the arbitration community.

Desai adds,

We were very pleased indeed to see so many arbitration practitioners from the key international law firms meet and interact with the MCIA delegation during the roadshow.

The positive reception bodes well for the MCIA as well as India as an emerging jurisdiction for arbitration.”
