Within a week’s time, the Madras High Court will see the appointment of six new additional judges. All the fresh appointees are from the Bar. Assistant Solicitor General of India for the Madurai Bench of the High Court GR Swaminathan is among the names.
The other new judges will be M Dhandapani, Jagdish Chandra, Bhavani Subbarayan, Audikesavalu and Abdul Quddhose.
Abdul Quddhose will follow in the footsteps of his father, who is a former High Court judge. Dhandapani has been a Special Prosecutor for Enforcement Cases.
The new appointments will take the High Court’s working strength to 54 judges, as against a sanctioned strength of 75. Justice B Gokuldas was the latest judge to reach superannuation; he retired on June 6.
In October last year, the appointment of 16 new judges to the High Court was sanctioned by the President.
