Madras HC issues guidelines to curb harassment by police during investigationDecember 14 2017
In an order passed recently, Justice MS Ramesh of the Madras High Court has emphasised that the powers of investigating officers should not be abused so as to become harassment under the guise of investigation.
A petition had been filed before the High Court, invoking its inherent powers under Section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The petitioners had prayed that the Court intervene to restrain the police from harassing them during the course of investigation in a case.
