The lawyers allegedly broke through the barricades and manhandled the police. There were also allegations of lawyers throwing stones at the police..In Chandigarh, lawyers of the Punjab And Haryana High Court were lathi charged and faced water cannons outside the State Assembly. The lawyers were proceeding towards the residence of the Punjab Governor, in order to submit a memorandum protesting the registration of a complaint against twenty advocates. The said complaint alleged that a group of lawyers had manhandled a policeman in Chandigarh. Following the lathi charge incident, lawyers in Chandigarh had gone on strike..In New Delhi, a policeman was allegedly manhandled by a group of lawyers within the Patiala House Court premises. As per this report, the policeman was “roughed up” for protecting a lawyer against whom an FIR had been filed by the New Delhi Bar Association (NDBA). In its complaint, the NDBA had alleged that the lawyer had threatened members of the NDBA and had also brought “bouncers with guns” to the District Court premises..Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court heard a petition against the release of the film “Jolly LLB”. The petition, seeking a stay on the film’s release, claimed that the film showed lawyers abusing in open court, and also lowered the dignity of the court..Update at 13:05 hrs on March 7, 2013: As per an update provided by Chandigarh-based lawyer, Navdeep Singh, the Chief Justice of the Punjab & Haryana High Court, exercising suo moto powers, has directed the the proceedings of the FIR against the lawyers be stayed.
