Telling signs of the state of affairs at the Bar came to fore today during the hearing of a PIL concerning the Patiala House violence..The hearing, which happened in court room 5 before Justices Jasti Chelameswar and AM Sapre, witnessed a lawyer shouting slogans inside the court room before he was removed by security personnel..The lawyer, Rajiv Yadav, was later summoned and made to apologise..Today’s hearing also witnessed a battery of Senior lawyers arguing for the petitioners, including Senior Advocates KTS Tulsi, Rajeev Dhavan and advocate Prashant Bhushan..Senior Advocate Sidharth Luthra appeared for the Delhi High Court, while Senior Advocate Ajit Kumar Sinha represented the Delhi Police..The petitioners’ lawyers raised concerns about the safety inside Patiala House court complex..“There is a serious danger to the security of the life of the Accused. He could be lynched by the mob if he is produced before the court….The Commissioner of police says this is a minor incident. I am sorry but violence inside court is not a minor incident”, submitted Tulsi..Rajeev Dhavan submitted that it was an open court hearing and nobody was entitled to stop media or other visitors..“This is not an ordinary incident. It is an incident which concerns the judiciary. It was an open court hearing. People are entitled to attend if it is an open court hearing. How are lawyers entitled to use violence to remove people from court?”, asked Dhavan..After a hearing which lasted for one and a half hours, the court passed an interim order regulating the entry of lawyers into the Patiala House court room where the hearing will happen today..The order states that six lawyers, representing the parties, and five journalists would be allowed inside the court room today.
