Law Ministry wants 25% increase in number of sitting HC judges; Kapil Sibal pushing for audio- recordings of court proceedings

In a bid to tackle the growing judicial pendency, the Law Ministry is pushing for a 25% increase in the number of sitting High Court judges. Given that close to 650 High Court posts are currently occupied across various High Courts, out of a sanctioned strength of 906, this would translate into 160 new appointments in the near future. The news report does not mention the filling up of posts at the level of the lower judiciary.
