2014 Mergermarket M&A League Tables: Amarchand tops league table by value with $14.89 billion double of AZB deals’ value

India’s M&A activity rebounded with 300 transactions totaling $32 billion, up 43% by value from 2013 ($22.3 billion), which was the lowest valued year since 2007, according to the Mergermarket report..Amarchand Mangaldas topped the deal value league table with 42 deals valued at $14.89 billion maintaining its top slot while AZB & Partners topped the deal count table with 44 deals valued at $7.8 billion. Amarchand’s 42 deals are valued double of AZB’s 44 deals..It will be interesting to see the league tables of 2015 with Amarchand splitting this year with effect from April 1, 2015..League Table by Value.Amarchand Mangaldas leads the league table with 42 deals valued at $14.89 billion followed by AZB & Partners, and Davis Polk & Wardwell..The largest M&A deal of the year was the $4 billion Sun-Ranbaxy deal. In fact, the pharma sector was the most active in 2014 accounting for a 15.7% market share by value, according to Mergermarket report..The technology sector also saw a wealth of activity in 2014 and was the second most active by value and deal count with 43 deals valued at $5 billion..Apart from Amarchand Mangaldas, the Sun-Ranbaxy deal also got Luthra & Luthra into the league table on 3rd position by value. The same deal put Crawford Bayley, PH Bathiya, Shearman & Sterling, Weil Gotshal & Manges and White & Case all in the league table..S&R Associates too made it to the league table this year on 5th position with 4 deals valued at $4.8 billion including Vodafone-Primal deal and United Spirits-Diageo merger..Platinum Partners made it to the league table with the $3.14 billion United Spirits-Diageo merger..Vaish associates and J. Sagar Associates too made it to top 15..League Table by Deal Count.AZB & Partners continued to top the league table with the highest deal count (44 deals) followed by Amarchand Mangaldas (42 deals) and J.Sagar Associates with 38 deals. Trilegal ranked fourth in the league table with 31 deals..Khaitan & Co dropped to fifth position from third position in 2013 with a score of 24 deals while Trilegal maintained its sixth position with 16 deals followed by Luthra & Luthra with 15 deals..The other firms to make it to the league table by deal count are PH Bhathiya (12 deals), DSK Legal (10 deals), Krishnamurthy & Co and ELP with (8 deals each) and BMR Legal (7 deals).
