Attorney General KK Venugopal today expressed his strong disapproval at the manner in which CJI Ranjan Gogoi deals with cases.

Justice Gogoi has been taking tough stance and disposing of matters in a jiffy.

When a case came up today with AG Venugopal appearing in it, Justice Gogoi was inclined to dismiss it. However,  AG Venugopal put his foot down.

People come to this court after travelling thousands of miles and Your Lordships don’t even hear their arguments and dismiss cases saying you have read it.

This is not the way, at least at admission stage they should be heard“, said Venugopal.

CJI Gogoi acceded to the request and said,

Alright Mr. Venugopal. We take your statement in the right spirit. You may now argue“.

After Justice Gogoi took over as CJI, he has taken a firm stance declining mentioning and has also been refusing adjournments. CJI Gogoi made his intentions clear the very first day when he stated that mentioning would be allowed only for urgent matters for the time being before proceeding to hear listed matters.

He had also stated that he will be evolving a plan to tackle pendency of cases.
