Indian law firm, Khaitan & Co celebrated its centenary at a glittering ceremony in suburban Mumbai. The century old Khaitan & Co, which started with 3 partners from the Khaitan family now has over 300 lawyers, including 57 partners..Speaking on the occasion, Khaitan & Co Partner, Haigreve Khaitan started his speech with a quote the American poet Emily Dickenson. “We turn not older with years but newer every day”, Khaitan stated, going on to say that this line fully embodies what the firm stands for. Khaitan also spoke on the origns of the firm and how it was formed when a British prisoner told Khaitan’s great grandfather of the need for Indian lawyers! Khaitan went on to list the number of ways in which the firm has broken new grounds, including the fact that it was one of the first law firms to use electronic typewriters, have air-conditioned offices and the first law firm to outsource billing and accounting to a 3rd party..Khaitan also made note of the changing role of the firm from the license raj of the 1960’s to the post-liberalisation era of the last two decades. The book was was unveiled by Mr Anand Mahindra, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra..This event saw healthy participation from both international and domestic lawyers in addition to the firm’s clientele and it’s own associates.
