Kerala High Court gets four more Additional Judges [Read Notifications]

The Central government has cleared the elevation of two lawyers and two judicial officers as judges of the Kerala High Court. As per two notifications issued today, advocates VG Arun and N Nagaresh, and judicial officers, TV Anilkumar and N Anil Kumar have been appointed as additional judges to the Kerala High Court.

All four appointments have been made for a two year term.

The Government notification concerning the elevation of VG Arun Kumar and N Nagaresh states,

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Shri (1) VG Arun and (2) N Nagaresh, to be Additional Judges of the Kerala High Court, in that order of seniority, for a period of two years with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.”

The Government notification concerning the elevation of TV Anilkumar and N Anil Kumar states,

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Shri (1) TV Anilkumar and (2) N Anil Kumar, to be Additional Judges of the Kerala High Court, in that order of seniority, for a period of two years with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.”

These appointments have been made pursuant to a resolution passed by the Supreme Court Collegium last month.

Along with the above names, the Collegium had also recommended one more advocate for appointment as a High Court judge. However, today’s notifications are silent on this proposed recommendation.

With the latest appointments, the working strength of the Kerala High Court rises to 40 judges against a sanctioned strength of 47 judges.
