After the Supreme Court Judges decided to contribute Rs. 25,000 each towards Kerala Flood relief fund, now the Supreme Court staff members have contributed their one day’s salary for the cause.
The Supreme Court staff members have decided to make the contribution voluntarily and the collection will go to Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund, Kerala. The circular to this effect was issued on August 20.
The contribution, however, is voluntary and the threshold for the same is one day’s salary worth, but those who wish to contribute more can do so. The circular reads,
“A large number of the staff members feel that we should contribute generously for the aforementioned cause and donate at least one day’s Gross salary to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund, Kerala voluntarily for the welfare and rehabilitation of the affected population and development of the affected areas in the State of Kerala.”
Besides the Judges of the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court staff members, the Supreme Court Bar Association contributed Rs. 30 lakh towards relief fund while some members of the SCBA organized two rounds of collection drives for collecting relief material to be sent to Kerala.
Contributions were also made by Judges of the Delhi High Court, members of the Judiciary from Tripura and staff members of the Tripura High Court.
