Kanak Tiwari appointed AG for Chhattisgarh, MS Singhvi for Rajasthan

Consequent upon the change of governments in both states, a new Advocate General each has been appointed for Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.

Senior Advocate Kanak Tiwari has been appointed Advocate General for Chhattisgarh. After completing a B.Sc. in Physics, he decided to do a Master’s in English, and went on to teach the subject at various colleges in Madhya Pradesh. He only decided to study law after finding it difficult to make ends meet as a teacher.

A foray into politics followed, with Tiwari being appointed General Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee. He eventually went on to practice at the Chhattisgarh High Court, and was designated as a Senior Advocate.

Tiwari replaces Yugal Kishore Gilda, who resigned as Advocate General following the change of government in the state.

Meanwhile, Senior Advocate Mahendra Singh Singhvi has been appointed Advocate General for Rajasthan. The 62-year-old lawyer has previously served as Additional Solicitor General for the states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.

Singhvi replaces Narpat Mal Lodha, who resigned from the post on December 12, after the BJP lost the state assembly elections in the state.

Earlier last month, Senior Advocate Rajendra Tiwari was appointed as the new Advocate General for the State of Madhya Pradesh, another state that recently saw a change of government.
