Justice Vineet Kothari appointed Acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court

The Central Government has notified the appointment of Justice Vineet Kothari as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.

This notification comes after the resignation of Chief Justice VK Tahilramani, which has been accepted by the president and notified by the Ministry of Law and Justice today.

The notification appointed Justice Kothari as Acting Chief Justice states,

In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Vineet Kothari, senior-most Judge of the Madras High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court with immediate effect consequent upon the resignation of Smt Justice VK Tahilramani, Chief Justice, Madras High Court.”

As a Lawyer, Justice Kothari practiced in Tax & other Commercial and Constitutional Laws, Arbitration & Company Law for 20 years in Rajasthan High Court and Supreme Court of India. He was appointed as a judge in the Rajasthan High Court in 2005. In 2016, he was transferred to Karnataka High Court and on November 23, 2018, he assumed office as the Senior Judge of Madras High Court.
