Justice Umesh Dattatraya Salvi has been appointed acting Chairperson of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) following the superannuation of Justice Swatanter Kumar..Justice Salvi enrolled as an advocate in 1977. He was appointed City Civil and Additional Sessions Judge, Mumbai in August 1993. Justice Salvi was elevated as a judge of the Bombay High Court on February 10, 2009 and was appointed a Judicial Member of the NGT with effect from February 14, 2013..Justice Salvi will take charge from today and will continue in office till a new Chairperson is appointed or till his superannuation, whichever is earlier..The notification states,.“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 11 of the National Green Tribunal Act, 2010 (19 of 2010), the Central Government hereby authorises Mr. Justice Umesh Dattatraya Salvi, Judicial Member, National Green Tribunal to act as Chairperson of the National Green Tribunal, as the vacancy in the office of Chairperson has arisen due to superannuation of Mr. Justice Swatanter Kumar, with effect from 20th December, 2017 until the date on which a new Chairperson is appointed or till the date of his superannuation, whichever is earlier, in accordance with the provisions of the aforesaid Act.”.Read the notification below.
