Judges of subordinate judiciary work in most trying conditions, Justice AK Sikri

The Supreme Court’s Justice AK Sikri today made some very encouraging remarks about judges of the subordinate judiciary.

The remarks were made during the hearing of a case relating to the murder of RTI activist Amit Jethva.

The case is an appeal against a judgment of the Gujarat High Court, which had ordered retrial in the murder case after many witnesses turned hostile.

Sikri J, who is heading the Bench in the case, was responding to a submission by Senior Counsel Anand Grover regarding lower court judges. Taking objection to the submission, Sikri J said,

“Even today, there are judges (from lower judiciary) who tell me that if they get a call from the Registry saying that a High Court judge is calling them, they shiver.

Lower judiciary judges work in the most trying conditions”.

It was only a few weeks ago that former Chief Justice of India JS Khehar made some remarks on judges of the lower judiciary,  causing an uproar.
