Jindal Global Law School signs MoUs with the University of California and University of Arizona

The Jindal Global Law School, Sonipat (JGLS) has recently signed agreements with the law schools of the University of California and the University of Arizona. As per the press release, the two MoUs were signed in USA today by the Vice Chancellor, O.P. Jindal Global University, Professor, C. Raj Kumar with his counterparts in the University of California Davis School of Law and Berkeley Law School..The MoU with the Berkeley Law School enables a three year LL.B student in JGLS to also pursue a professional LL.M degree in Berkeley Law which spans two 10 to 13-week summer terms. Berkeley Law School’s Professional LL.M. Programme qualifies its graduates to take the California Bar Examination..The MoU with the Berkeley Law (BL) provides for an executive education programmes for lawyers, judges, general counsels, corporate executives, government officials, diplomats, think tanks and businessmen in India. They seek to provide legal training, capacity and institution building and continuing legal education. The Law Schools will jointly conduct such programmes in either or both countries, and will undertake at least one or two programmes each year..Commenting on this development, Professor Christopher Edley Jr., Dean, Berkeley Law said, “This partnership strengthens Berkeley Law’s commitment to tackling complex legal and policy issues across the world. Our public mission demands that we take a global approach in our work, and collaborating with an Indian law school of Jindal’s caliber serves that effort.”.The MoU with the University of California’s Davis School of Law provide for collaborations through summer training programmes, joint research, seminars, publications, faculty collaborations and exchanges of faculty and students. Rogers College of Law, University of Arizona, which was signed on April 9, 2012 in the USA, provides for a unique dual degree programme. A central feature of the agreement allows students from JGLS, to earn both their Indian law degree and a J.D. from Arizona Law in two years less than it would take to earn those degrees separately.The two schools will also work together to develop a similar programme for Arizona Law students wishing to study in India, and may design advanced law degree programmes..“The practice of law is increasingly global, and India – with its rapid development in business, law, and global affairs — is a nation at the heart of that transformation.” said James E. Rogers College of Law Vice Dean Marc Miller. “This innovative joint degree programme addresses an unmet need, and is the first step in what we expect to be a mutually beneficial collaboration. We are also looking at other, advanced law training that will benefit both student bodies..JGLS’s Registrar, Professor YSR Murthy told Bar & Bench that such programmes essentially allow students to enrol for an LLB in India and eventually end up with an LLM from Berkeley. Professor Murthy also clarifies that such programmes are not only meant for students of JGLS; they are expecting to host students from participating universities as well..Speaking to Bar & Bench, Dean of JGLS, Professor C.
