JGLS wins Surana amp Surana Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition Defeats Jamia Milia Islamia in the finals

Jindal Global Law School, Sonepat (JGLS) recently won the Surana & Surana National Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition 2012, held at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab. The JGLS team consisting Meher Dev, Kudrat Dev, Aiman Kler, and Jinaly Dani, defeated the team from Jamia Milia Islamia in the final rounds. Additionally, Jinaly Dani won the Best Speaker Award. JGLS also won the award for second best written memorial..This competition was held from September 14 – 16, 2012. Eighteen law schools from across the country, including five national law universities participated in the moot court competition..Out of the eighteen teams which participated, the two other teams which made it to the semin finals were the National Law University, Jodhpur and the Army Institute of Law, Mohali. The final round between JGLS and Jamia Milia Islamia was judged by a bench comprising of two sitting judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Rajiv Narain Raina and Justice Tejinder Singh Dhindsa. They were accompanied by Prof (Dr.) GIS Sandhu, Registrar of RGNUL. The winning team was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 18, 000 and each team member was awarded a year’s subscription of SSC Online..Speaking to Bar & Bench, Jinaly Dani said that “This is the first time that our college has taken part in a trial advocacy moot and hence we were all very tensed and excited about it. But the format of the competition ensured that we had a lot of fun while mooting. When the results were being announced, we were optimistic until the very last minute and we were not disappointed, since we scored a triple whammy!” Adds Meher Dev, “We have learnt a lot out this moot right from our 1st day of preparations to the final rounds. Besides our routine moot research, we visited trial courts to see for ourselves how do lawyers chief and cross examine witnesses…..The words of motivation and wisdom of Justice Rajeev Raina have encouraged each one of us to make use of our legal skills for the people who really need us.”.Vice Chancellor, O.P.
