After the Supreme Court Bench headed by Justice Dalveer Bhandari rejected the application of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (CM) for exempting from personal appearance, Jayalalithaa appeared before Special Court Judge B M Mallkarjunaiah..After the Supreme Court Bench headed by Justice Dalveer Bhandari rejected the application of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (CM) for exempting from personal appearance, Jayalalithaa appeared before Special Court Judge B M Mallkarjunaiah..Karnataka Government has provided very tight security to the Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa from the moment she landed in Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Airport. She reached the Court in a convoy of 20 cars. Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure has been imposed around the Court premises until the hearing gets over. There will be no entry for private vehicles within one and a half kilometres and entry to Court premises, will be restricted only to lawyers involved with the case..Jayalalithaa is under Z plus security cover and 1,500 police personnel headed by Joint Commissioner of Police are put on duty in addition to National Security Guard commandoes. Her special car also has been brought to Bangalore for her special appearance in Court..The case relates to disproportionate assets worth Rs.66 crore accumulated by her during her tenure as CM of Tamilnadu between the period 1991-1996. The case was transferred to Karnataka for ensuring ‘fair trial’ to Jayalalithaa as she feared she might be implicated by the then DMK government in false cases..TOI reported that a six member advocate team of Jayalalithaa lead by B Kumar, Karur Member of Parliament Thambidorai and P H Pandian, former speaker of Tamil Nadu legislative assembly came to court complex an hour before trial began. 50-member lawyers from Tamil Nadu tried to enter the court complex, but were stopped by the police citing security reasons..Jayalalithaa even prayed before the Apex Court to shift the venue of the trail court closer to the Bangalore airport to facilitate recording of her statement in the case. Senior Advocate Mukul Rohtagi appearing on behalf of the CM had argued “NSG did not get an opportunity to make a survey of the place 60 hours before her visit as mandated”. At the Supreme Court, while dismissing her plea for deferring the trial in the Bangalore court, Justice Bhandari said: “When there is an affidavit by the DGP and the chief secretary, what else do you want? We were equally concerned till yesterday. We got two affidavits from two top officials that she would be provided with adequate security”..An Apex Court of a country is requesting a CM to be reasonable in her demands!.The trial is being conducted at Parappana Agrahara Central Prisons, where the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, BS Yeddyurappa is lodged after his bail was rejected in a corruption case..NDTV, CNN IBN have covered her visit to the Bangalore Court in detail. .It is for just one appearance she has to make, so much money, effort and time is being spent by the Government. A Court is relocated, 1500 policemen put on duty in addition to top level commandoes of the Country, a helipad is prepared for her special arrival, special car is also brought from Tamil Nadu and further to add to the glamour, a convoy of 20 cars as in Rajnikant Movies..The question that arose is whether the million-dollar appearance is worth it?
