Jayalalithaa moves Supreme Court for bail

AIADMK supremo and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa has moved the Supreme Court against the rejection of her bail plea by the Karnataka High Court. The petition was filed today evening through Advocate on Record Gaurav Agarwal..In her plea, she has contended that since the sentence of imprisonment by the trial court is only for a limited period, bail ought to be granted as per the judgments of the Supreme Court. She has further submitted that there was full co operation from her side during the trial and has also cited ill health and age as grounds for relief. .Jayalalithaa was sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined Rs. 100 crore by Special Judge Michael Cunha in a case pertaining to acquisition of disproportionate assets. Subsequently, she had moved a bail application in the Karnataka High Court but Justice AV Chandrashekhara had rejected it despite the Special Public Prosecutor informing the court that there was no objection in granting conditional bail to her..No final decision has been taken on which Senior advocate will be appearing for her in the Supreme Court.
