Jairam Ramesh, The Caravan Editor and Journalist summoned in Vivek Doval’s defamation case

The Court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate has today summoned Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, Editor-in-Chief of The Caravan, Paresh Nath and journalist Kaushal Shroff in the criminal defamation case preferred by Vivek Doval against them.

All accused persons will appear before Judge Samar Vishal on April 25.

Holding that the allegations made by the accused persons against Doval are prima facie defamatory, the Court ordered,

The inquiry as contemplated under section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure has been duly conducted by examining the complainant and his witnesses to arrive at the conclusion for this stage of this case. Therefore in view of the aforesaid discussion there exists sufficient grounds to proceed against all the respondents. Accordingly Mr. Jairam Ramesh, Mr. Paresh Nath, the Editor-in-Chief of Caravan Magazine and Mr. Kaushal Shroff, the author of the alleged defamatory article in the Caravan Magazine are summoned for commission of offence of defamation under section 500 of the Indian Penal Code.”
