Delhi’s Patiala House Court today granted interim bail to former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in the IRCTC scam case, ANI reported..Yadav, who is currently serving a prison sentence for his role in the Fodder Scam case, was directed by Special Judge Arun Bharadwaj last month to appear via videoconferencing. An order to this effect was passed on November 19, after the judge was told that Yadav was unable to appear in court owing to ill health..The case relates to alleged irregularities in a tender awarded to a private company called Sujata Hotels to develop and operate two railway hotels in Ranchi and Puri in 2005, when Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Union Railways Minister. In return, he allegedly received a three-acre plot worth Rs 45 crore through a benami company owned by the wife of a Rashtriya Janata Dal parliamentarian..A criminal case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was subsequently registered against Yadav and others by the Enforcement Directorate, based on an FIR filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)..The matter will now be taken up for hearing on January 19..The court had earlier granted bail to Yadav’s wife Rabri Devi, son Tejashwi Yadav, and others accused in the IRCTC case.
