INX Media: CBI Court allows ED to interrogate P Chidambaram in Tihar

The Special CBI Court presided by Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar today allowed the Enforcement Directorate to interrogate P Chidambaram on November 22 and 23 in connection with the INX Media money laundering case..P Chidamabaram is currently in judicial custody in Tihar Jail in relation to the case..An application was moved by the ED earlier today seeking permission to interrogate Chidambaram for three hours in the morning i.e. 10 am to 1 pm and one and a half hours in the afternoon i.e. 1 pm to 2.30 pm. ED had also sought permission to confront Chidambaram with certain documents..The INX Media case pertains to the alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance to INX Media when P Chidambaram was the Finance Minister of India..It is the case of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the ED that P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram received illegal gratification from INX Media owners Peter and Indrani Mukherjea for the clearance..After spending a fortnight in CBI custody and subsequently in judicial custody, Chidambaram was arrested by the ED in connection with the money laundering case on October 16..After the completion of 15 days of ED custody, he was sent to judicial custody on October 30..Last week, the Delhi High Court rejected his bail plea on the ground that he played a “key and active role” in the commission of the offence money laundering. An appeal against the dismissal is currently pending before the Supreme Court..P Chidambaram’s judicial custody ends on November 27.
