The Supreme Court refused to grant relief in the various petitions challenging the Aadhaar scheme heard today..The petitioners today sought an interim order directing the Centre not to deprive mid-day meals to school children. The Bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Navin Sinha, however, refused to pass any interim order, as it was of the opinion that mere apprehensions of the petitioner will not yield any result..The petitioners have challenged various notifications issued by the Central government making Aadhaar mandatory for 17 different social service schemes. When the matter was taken up today, the Bench asked the petitioner to provide data to prove that children were being deprived of the benefits of mid-day meal for not possessing Aadhaar..Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted that nobody will be deprived of benefits under any scheme till the next hearing. He also stated,.“Those who have Aadhaar card will have to show it but those who don’t have it, can show any other alternative id and avail the benefits”..He also sought further time to file reply to the rejoinder. The Bench acquiesced to the request and allowed the Centre time till July 4 to file its reply. The matter will now be taken up on that date.
