Trilegal, Khaitan, Indus, Phoenix lawyers make it to Asian Legal Business ’40 under 40′ list

Asian Legal Business (ALB), an entity of Thomson Reuters, has come out with a list of the top 40 Asian lawyers under the age of 40. Among the list of the “brightest legal minds in the region” are five Indian lawyers.

The Indian lawyers featuring in the list are Trilegal Partner Delano FurtadoKhaitan & Co Partner Rajat MukherjeeIndusLaw Partner Lomesh Kiran Nidumuri and Trinath Tadakamalla of Phoenix Legal. Also making it to the list is Puneet Bansal, who launched his own law firm, Nitya Tax Associates.

Delano Furtado is part of Trilegal’s corporate practice group and his primary practice areas are mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate restructuring and disposals, private equity and venture capital. A graduate of ILS Pune, Furtado has been with Trilegal for 14 years.

Rajat Mukherjee is an M&A lawyer who focuses on cross-border transactions. He is a graduate of the Symbiosis Law School, Pune and also holds an LL.M.  from the Columbia Law School. Before leaving for New York, Rajat was part of the corporate team at the Mumbai office of DSK Legal. After completing his LL.M. degree, Rajat joined as an Associate at the New York office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. In 2010, he moved back to India to join Khaitan & Co.

Litigation and dispute resolution lawyer Lomesh Kiran Nidumuri has counseled clients in a variety of litigation matters relating to commercial contracts, shareholder agreements, oppression and mismanagement, winding-up, amalgamation and restructuring of companies. Nidumuri is a graduate of Delhi University and holds an LL.M. from New York University School of Law. He has previously worked at Dua Associates and Bharucha & Partners, before joining IndusLaw in 2010.

Trinath Tadakamalla’s practice areas include commercial disputes, insurance and reinsurance, construction and engineering, and natural gas. He is a 2004 graduate of NALSAR, Hyderabad. He worked with Tuli & Co, where he was elevated to partnership in 2010. He then moved to Khaitan Sud & Partners (KSP) as a partner in May 2012, and then to Phoenix Legal in January 2015.

Puneet Bansal is an expert in the indirect taxation space and has worked extensively with leading MNCs and Indian companies. He had left BMR & Associates to start his own boutique law firm ‘Nitya Tax Associates’ in 2015. Before joining BMR in 2012, Bansal was a Partner with Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan, where he worked for over 9 years in the firm’s litigation and advisory practice.
