AZB & Partners has announced the joining of Nisha Kaur Uberoi as the Co-Head of the Competition Law Practice. Nisha will Co-Head the practice with Samir Gandhi and will be based out of the firm’s Mumbai office..This is the second big hire for AZB from Cyril Amarchand – the first one being Ashwath Rau along with his team of 3 partners..Senior Partners, Zia Mody, Ajay Bahl and Bahram Vakil said,.“Having Nisha come on board as Co-Head will even further accelerate and deepen our existing Top Tier position in this practice and we hope to soon put blue water between us and the rest of the market.”.Uberoi was the Head of the Competition Practice at Cyril Amarchand Managldas before joining AZB. A graduate of National Law School of India University, Bangalore, Uberoi started her career with Amarchand Mangaldas in 2002. In 2005, she moved to Singapore, where she worked at Rajah & Tann and Ashurst, before returning in 2011 to rejoin Amarchand Mangaldas. She was made partner in 2012 and was recently made the head of the Competition practice..She has significant experience, having obtained a very significant number of merger control clearances in India (over 175 of the 340 odd merger notifications). Uberoi also represents clients in cartel matters and in abuse of dominance proceedings and appears at the CCI and COMPAT regularly..Samir Gandhi, the Co-Head of Competition Practice said,.“We welcome Nisha on board and are very much looking forward to taking the practice from strength to strength.”
