Government litigation should be brought under arbitration – Solicitor General Mohan Parasaran

The Bar Council of India (BCI) has established a new law library and a Legal Aid, Mediation and Conciliation Centre (Legal Aid Centre) in its premises. Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjan Gogoi inaugurated both the library and the Legal Aid Centre on April 12 at a function that was also attended by Solicitor General Mohan Parasaran..The law library, which is called the “BCI-AIR Law Cafe”, is equipped with online facilities and will be maintained and updated by the All India Reporter (AIR). Speaking on the occasion, BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra, whose tenure is about to end, said that the library would be open to all the members of the Bar in the country and also to law students. The Legal Aid Centre has been established in collaboration with AIR. Noted Senior advocates, eminent jurists and retired Judges of the Supreme Court and various High Courts will be involved in the process of legal aid, mediation and conciliation..Justice Ranjan Gogoi said that Indian judiciary was being crippled by the problem of backlog of cases. He called upon the Bar and the Bench to resolve the problem of arrears while saying that “the system has given me so much, it is time I give it back to the system.”.Solicitor General Mohan Parasaran, who was the Guest of Honour for the function, also stressed upon the problem of overburdening of courts and said that government litigation, especially service matters, should be brought within the scope of arbitration..The function was also attended by Delhi High Court Bar Association President Rajiv Khosla.
