GNLU hosts International Seminar on Women Empowerment Two-day event has Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra as Chief Guest

The Gender Sensitization Committee at the Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar (GNLU) in collaboration with Sayajirao Gaekwad Trust organized a two day International Seminar on women empowerment titled “Miles to Go”. The seminar was held on March 24-25, 2012 and sought to highlight the social, economic, legal and emerging trends in women empowerment..The inaugural ceremony on 24th March was attended, amongst others, by Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra of the Supreme Court of India, Anandiben Patel, Minister of Women and Child Welfare Development, Government of Gujarat and Dr. Mrunalini Devi Puar, Chancellor of Maharaja Syajirao University, Vadodara. The ceremony was also attended by Indonesia’s ambassador to India, H.E. Lt Gen (Retd) Andi M. Ghalib..Chief Guest Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra spoke of the need for everyone to play a small yet significant role to ensure women empowerment. Dr. Mrunalini Devi Puar spoke of the contribution made by Maharaja Sayajirao for women empowerment a 150 years ago..Four panelists chaired each of the four sessions and the two-day event saw over 50 paper presentations made by participants from all all over the country. The seminar also witnessed the launch of two publications: Journey of Women Empowerment: Miles To Go and Surrogacy and Live-In-relationship..Speaking to Bar & Bench, Dr. Anand Kumar Tripathi, the Seminar Coordinator said that “To organize a successful seminar is a great experience…..[there is a] need is to implement the outcomes of the seminar holistically…. ”.(This report was prepared by GNLU student Nikhil Varshney)
