GNLU hosts convocation ceremony for Graduating Class of 2012 Fourth convocation ceremony has Chief Justice Kabir as Chief Guest

The Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar (GNLU) held its fourth Annual Convocation for the graduating Class of 2012 at its campus on January 19, 2013. The Chief Justice of Supreme Court Justice Altamas Kabir was the Chief Guest for the ceremony. Justice Anil R. Dave of the Supreme Court of India (who is also the Visitor of the University) presided over the gathering. The Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi was the Guest of Honour for the ceremony. Others present at the ceremony included Justice Mohit S. Shah, the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, and Bhupendrasingh Chudasma, the Minister for Law & Justice of Gujarat..The august function flagged off at 4:00 p.m. with a one minute condolence prayer for Ms. Supriya Dubey (Class of 2012) who passed away in an accident on January 13,2013. GNLU’s Director, Dr. Bimal N. Patel rendered the welcome address and presented the GNLU’s Annual Report wherein he recounted the various achievements of GNLU in the past year..Degrees were conferred to the hundred and fifty students of the undergraduate Class of 2012. Degrees were also conferred to fifteen Post Graduate students and eight Diploma students. Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary of LL.M. batch was declared the topper while Harsha Rajvanshi was declared the Best Outstanding Student of LL.M. batch. Tanushree Bhuwalka of the undergraduate programme stood out, winning an astounding 7 Gold medals including the Gold medal for Best Student in any discipline. She was followed by Barnik Ghosh who won 6 Gold medals including Gold Medal for Best Student for overall performance..Chief Minister Modi in his address exhorted students to serve the poor and give them quick justice. He stated that GNLU is a mini-India and each student is not only going with a law degree but also becoming an Ambassador of Gujarat. He also asked the students to remember every common man they meet in their life and take oath to pay back as life is not made by the money of our fathers but the support of the people..In his Convocation address, Chief Justice Kabir urged the graduating students to try to get rid of the image of “lawyers as being sharks”. He said he has coined the term “SCC” in his own way, different from Supreme Court Cases which when followed would make a student unstoppable. He said ‘S’ stands for ‘Sincerity’ and ‘Sensitivity’, ‘C’ for ‘Compassion’ and ‘Caring’, while the last ‘C’ stands for ‘Commitment’; all the three when combined would make a student unstoppable in his life. He stated amount of commitment that a person has ultimately pays.
