GIL hosts guest lecture at Amity Law School Delhi on international legal practice

Global Indian Lawyers (GIL) recently hosted a guest lecture at Amity Law School, Delhi (Affiliated to GGSIP University) on ‘Preparing for a Career in an International Legal Practice’. GIL is a registered society which seeks to engage stakeholders in the Indian legal profession to integrate the profession with international legal practice..Moazzam Khan, Senior Member of the International Arbitration and Disputes Resolution Practice at Nishith Desai and Associates and Bharat Singh, Assistant General Counsel, Jacob’s Engineering Group Inc. were the guest speakers at the event..Moazzam Khan specifically focused on the need to have a global perspective and a basic understanding of comparative laws to be able to service clients in an increasingly globalised economy. He also spoke about his experiences in handling International Commercial Arbitration which more often than not involve more than two legal jurisdictions..Bharat Singh spoke about the increasingly global nature of business worldwide including in India requiring Indian lawyers to be familiar with the idea of a multi-jurisdictional practice. He also spoke about what it takes for a career as an in-house counsel in a corporate set up spread over continents. Lastly, he emphasised the need to bring global best practices in law to India..Last month, GIL had filed an appeal against the Bombay high Court decision in the Lawyers Collective case on the entry of foreign law firms in the Supreme Court. The appeal, along with the AK Balaji case will be heard on July 20, 2015.
