Four Judicial Officers recommended as Delhi High Court judges [Read Collegium Resolution]May 6 2019
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of four judicial officers as Delhi High Court Judges.
A Collegium resolution issued today recommends the elevation of judicial officers, Talwant Singh, Rajnish Bhatnagar, Asha Menon and Brijesh Sethi to the High Court Bench.
The Delhi High Court Collegium had endorsed their elevation in November last year. The Supreme Court Collegium has now concurred with their proposal. In order to ascertain their suitability, the Collegium considered inputs from colleagues familiar with the High Court’s affairs and observations made by the Department of Justice. The Collegium also appears to have found no merit in certain complaints recorded against the recommendees.
While making the recommendation, the Collegium also noted that one Senior Judicial officer had been bypassed in being considered for elevation. However, it is recorded that the High Court Collegium’s reasons for not recommending the officer are justified.
Therefore, it has passed a resolution as follows,
“… the Collegium resolves to recommend that S/Shri (1) Talwant Singh, (2) Rajnish Bhatnagar, (3) Ms. Asha Menon, and (4) Brijesh Sethi, Judicial Officers, be appointed as Judges of the Delhi High Court. Their inter se seniority be fixed as per the existing practice.”
