National Law University, Jodhpur’s Cultural Fest NH-65 will take place this year from October 9 to 12, 2014. Bar & Bench caught up with the Core Committee to know more about this year’s event..Bar & Bench: How do you decide the various events which would be held during the fest? How many months before the fest does the preparation start?.NH-65 Core Committee: NH-65 is jointly organized by the Academic Support and Literary Committee and the Cultural Committee of NLU Jodhpur. Both these committees decide on the specific events that they would be like to conduct under their ambit for the fest and thus a consolidated list is prepared and the budget divided accordingly. As this is the Third Edition of the Fest certain flagship events like Parliamentary Debate, Fashion Show, Battle of the Bands Extempore Moot etc have become a signature NH-65 tradition. The events specific and unique to this edition have been decided jointly by the members of the Cultural and Academic Support and Literary Committee as mentioned earlier..The preparation starts roughly 4-6 months before the scheduled dates of the fest..B&B: How do you go about finding sponsors?.NH-65: Sponsorship and raising funds is one of the biggest challenges especially since our college is located in a small town like Jodhpur. The handicap is largely overcome as the administration is more than generous with their support for the fest and most of the funding requirement gets covered by them. For additional funding we reach out to PSU’s, banks, corporates and hotels who are more than happy to cover specific heads like guest accommodation, stage and background, performances etc. The reputation our college enjoys especially in Rajasthan as an Institute of Excellence really helps us in this. Finally, we also enjoy generous support from our alumni who are always willing to assist the college and its endeavors in whatever way possible..B&B: What are the highlights of this year’s event?.NH-65: We are very glad to announce that we have brought in quite a few changes from the previous editions of the fest for NH-65, 2014..For starters, it is for the first time in the history of the fest that we will be having not one but two guest performances. This year we are very proud to announce our association with the band Cassini’s Division and an EDM artist as guest performers for our fest..Then, for the first time we have opened up our Parliamentary Debate to non-law colleges as well to ensure that the level of competition is even higher. We are in talks with a highly experienced adjudication core for the same..This year we also have the benefit of the Rajasthan International Folk Festival organized by the Mehrangarh Museum Trust running parallel to our fest. We are in advanced negotiations with them to provide the participants with access to some of the leading folk artists in the world and performances conducted in the picturesque backdrop the Mehrangarh Fort..We will also be hosting the after party at a sprawling location which combines the traditional grandeur of Rajasthan along with contemporary urban facilities. But we cannot disclose the same as it’s a surprise for the participants..We also have a host of new events like stress interview, spot writing, client counseling etc. which were not a part of the previous editions of the fest..The Core Committee consists of Alimpan Banerjee, Dhruv Toliya, Ninni Susan Thomas and Akshita Alok.
