A former Chief Minister of Karnataka, DV Sadananda Gowda has been placed in charge of Law & Justice following the recent reshuffle and expansion of the Union Cabinet..Gowda, who hails from Sulya Taluk in southern Karnataka, obtained a law degree from Udupi Vaikunta Baliga College of law. At the same institute, he was elected the general secretary of the students union. After joining the legal profession in 1976, he went on to become public prosecutor in Sirsi for a short while..In August 2011, he was chosen to become the Chief Minister of Karnataka, a post he enjoyed for just under a year. Following the return of a Congress government in Karnataka, Gowda was appointed as the opposition leader in the Karnataka Legislative Council..In May this year, Gowda was sworn in as the Minister of Railways in the Union Cabinet..The recent reshuffle means that Gowda will replace Ravi Shankar Prasad as Law Minister. Gowda’s appointment comes barely a few weeks before the Parliament reconvenes for the winter session.
