[In the] evening I will respond from my mind”..Justice Misra, who took over as Chief Justice of India on August 28, 2017, will retire from office tomorrow. Today will be his last working day..His tenure has been one of the most controversial in the recent past. Last year, allegations of corruption in the Medical college case cropped up against him. The manner of listing of a PIL concerning the same led to more controversy..Subsequently, four senior-most judges had held a press conference – the first in the history of the Supreme Court – wherein the judges expressed dissatisfaction in the listing of certain cases, especially those concerning leaders of the ruling government..Later, the opposition party also initiated an impeachment motion against Misra J., the first such motion against a Chief Justice of India..Particularly during the last few months of his tenure in the Court, he was part of benches that delivered landmark judgments including striking down of provisions criminalising homosexuality and adultery, and allowing entry of women into Sabarimala.
