Delhi High Court sacks son of sitting Meghalaya High Court judge from Delhi judiciary

In a very strong message to judicial officers, the Delhi High Court has terminated the services of one Nitesh Gupta four days before he was set to take charge as Metropolitan Magistrate in Tis Hazari.

Gupta is the son of sitting Meghalaya High Court judge, Justice VP Vaish who was earlier a judge of the Delhi High Court.

As per PTI report, Gupta was on probation and was undergoing training at Patiala House Court when the decision to terminate him was taken in a Full Court meeting held on August 9 by the Delhi High Court led by Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal.

It is learnt that it was a unanimous decision by the Full Court.

According to highly placed sources, the action was taken after Gupta failed to provide satisfactory explanation with respect to interest free loans taken by him to the tune of Rs. 5.73 crore.

The decision was communicated by the High Court to the Lt. Governor, who accorded his approval to the High Court’s decision.

The Delhi High Court led by Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justices S Ravindra Bhat and Sanjiv Khanna has launched a strong drive against corruption in Delhi judiciary.

Earlier, this month the High Court had retired Additional Sessions Judge Raj Kapoor after the Court made a routine inspection of records of the judge as per the Delhi Judicial Services rules.
