Delhi HC fields Harish Salve in Supreme Court case on pending civil suits

After an unsavory hearing last month, the Delhi High Court this time took no chances, and fielded Senior Advocate Harish Salve in the suo motu petition initiated by the Supreme Court to work out a mechanism for disposal of long pending civil suits in High Courts..Appearing before Justices Ranjan Gogoi and R Banumathi, Salve told the Court that the present case not being an adversarial litigation, he would be assisting the Court in evolving ways and means to ensure timely and expeditious disposal of civil suits by the Delhi High Court, particularly those involving commercial disputes..Pursuant to the December 14 order of the Court, the High Court Registrar General also filed a report that incorporated the Delhi High Court (Original Side) Rules, 2018. This report stated that the said Rules have been approved by the Full Court of the Delhi High Court and is in the process of being notified. The Court noted the same in its order..“We have considered the report filed by the Registrar General, High Court of Delhi pursuant to the order of this Court dated 14th December, 2017. The said report, which is in four different parts also incorporates the Delhi High Court (Original Side) Rules, 2018 along with annexures thereto which has since been approved by the Full Court of the Delhi High Court and is in the process of being notified.”.The Court also noted that Salve may offer his views on the.“comprehensiveness and effectiveness of the aforesaid Rules and the need for changes therein, if any.”.The matter is now listed for hearing on March 13..Read the order below.
