The Delhi High Court today granted bail to Karti Chidambaram in relation to the INX Media bribery case..The Single Judge Bench of Justice SP Garg pronounced the verdict after reserving judgment in the matter last week..A battery of Senior Advocates including Kapil Sibal, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Dayan Krishnan and Gopal Subramaniam had appeared for Karti Chidambaram. .Sibal had argued that the conduct of the investigating agencies was completely mala fide. He had stated that the allegation against Karti is that he influenced FIPB officials to favour INX media. However, the CBI had not shown even a single statement by any FIPB official regarding the said dealing..Singhvi had listed out the grounds on which bail is denied and had stated that none of the said grounds applied to Chidambaram. However, ASG Tushar Mehta had submitted that Karti was not cooperating with the investigating agencies..The Court allowed the bail application on a surety of Rs. 10 Lakh and also directed Karti Chidambaram to not leave the country. Chidambaram had already surrendered his passport to the ED pursuant to the order of the court..On March 12, a Special CBI court sent Karti Chidambaram to judicial custody till 24 March.
