Delhi Court extends police custody of former SC Court Master arrested for order tampering

The Court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Patiala House today extended the police custody of former Court Master of the Supreme Court Tapan Kumar Chakraborty in connection with the order tampering case..Chakraborty’s police custody has been extended by three days..The second accused in the case, stenographer Manav Sharma was remanded to judicial custody by the Court..The order was passed by CMM Manish Khurana..Chakraborty and Sharma were arrested by the Delhi Crime Branch for allegedly tampering with a January 7 Supreme Court order in Ericsson’s contempt plea against Anil Ambani..The two have been booked for the commission of offences under Sections 420, 467,468 read with Section 120B of the Indian Penal Code..Post their arrest, Metropolitan Magistrate Sumeet Anand had sent Chakraborty and Sharma to seven days’ police custody..Delhi Police sought the extension of their custody on the ground that the accused had to be confronted with certain documents, which would further clarify their role in the case..On the previous hearing, the accused had pleaded that they were “falsely implicated and wrongly arrested” in the case while opposing their custodial interrogation. The Court was also informed that the job profile of the accused persons did not provide them with any occasion whatsoever to tamper with the record.
